Stats & Training
Flygon's stats barely vary. 6 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 3 Attack and Speed EVs, 1.06M XP medium-slow curve to max.
FLYGON is nicknamed “the elemental spirit of the desert.” Because its flapping wings whip up a cloud of sand, this POKéMON is always enveloped in a sandstorm while flying.
FLYGON whips up a sandstorm by flapping its wings. The wings create a series of notes that sound like singing. Because the “singing” is the only thing that can be heard in a sandstorm, this POKéMON is said to be the desert spirit.
Flygon Weakness
Type-wise, Flygon takes extra damage from Ice and Dragon. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Flygon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Dragon |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Ruby & Sapphire, Dugtrio's Earthquake hits Flygon for 48-56%. Houndoom deals 39-46% with Crunch.

The egg pool carries weight here. Focus Energy and Gust aren't available any other way for Flygon, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Earthquake and Dig for solid options.

How to Get Flygon in Ruby & Sapphire

Flygon Guide
In Ruby & Sapphire, Don't let Flygon's 520 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier as a sweeper. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Ruby & Sapphire, Run Levitate on Flygon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 100 Speed, Levitate gives Flygon an edge before opponents can react.
In Ruby & Sapphire, Flygon fills the sweeper role. It's a mixed attacker with base 100 Attack and 80 Sp. Atk. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Ruby & Sapphire, the core moveset is Earthquake, Rock Slide, Toxic, and Protect. Earthquake leads at 25% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.
