Stats & Training
Nothing fancy in Masquerain's spread. It leans special with Sp. Atk out front. And you'll get 2 Sp. Atk and Sp. Def EVs per KO for it. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It intimidates foes with the large eyelike patterns on its antennae. Because it can’t fly if its wings get wet, it shelters itself from rain under large trees and eaves.
Masquerain Weakness
Masquerain is weak to Rock, Fire, Electric, Ice, and Flying. Watch out for Rock attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Ground-type moves entirely.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Electric, Ice, Flying |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Bug |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Emerald, Magneton can KO Masquerain with Thunderbolt (128-151%). Aerodactyl threatens a KO with Rock Slide (333-391%). Charizard's Fire Blast also KOs at 134-157%.

Emerald Evolution
Masquerain is what Surskit becomes. Breed it for Surskit eggs (quick to hatch). A decent partner pool for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are quick to hatch. The evolution from Surskit pushed Masquerain to 434 total stats. Sp.Atk saw the largest single gain at +50. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Masquerain to get Surskit eggs easily using 37 partners from the Bug and Water1 egg groups. Notable egg moves include Foresight, Hydro Pump, Mind Reader and 2 more.
Emerald Masquerain Best Moveset
Intimidate helps Masquerain stick around while dealing real damage. Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs for the right balance, and Hydro Pump as the main threat. Not the fastest, but it doesn't need to be.

Masquerain best EVs are Sp. Atk and Speed

Moves
Egg moves make a real difference. Masquerain gets Foresight and Hydro Pump exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Coverage across 8 types rounds out the picture alongside Silver Wind and Aerial Ace.

Masquerain Guide
In Emerald, Masquerain's biggest threats include Tyranitar (Rock), Blaziken (Fire), and Jolteon (Electric), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Tyranitar is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Ice and Flying-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
In Emerald, Surskit evolves into Masquerain at level 22. Masquerain is the fully evolved form. It sits at 434 BST in its evolved form.
In Emerald, Masquerain can work for a story run. 434 BST is average, but Bug/Flying typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.
In Emerald, Masquerain looks average on paper at 434 BST. But Intimidate is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier attacker on our tier list. Hydro Pump with Leftovers is the standard set.
Masquerain gets Intimidate and Unnerve. But Intimidate is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
