Stats & Training
Cryogonal's all-in on Sp. Def at the expense of Defense. The special lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 2 Sp. Def EVs and follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
When its body temperature goes up, it turns into steam and vanishes. When its temperature lowers, it returns to ice.
They are born in snow clouds. They use chains made of ice crystals to capture prey.
Cryogonal Weakness
Cryogonal's Ice typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Cryogonal's special bulk (base 135 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Fighting, Rock, Steel |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ice |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Black & White Evolution
Cryogonal doesn't evolve, so breeding's where the action is. You'll find no compatible partners across one egg group, and eggs are average hatch time. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Cryogonal is genderless and can only breed with Ditto. Part of the Mineral egg group.
Black & White Cryogonal Best Moveset
Levitate isn't flashy, but it matters. Combined with Nevermeltice for extra utility and max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs, Cryogonal fills the special attacker slot reliably. Timid nature finishes the spread.

Cryogonal best EVs are Sp. Atk and Speed

Moves
Cryogonal develops a solid moveset just through leveling. Ice Beam and Solar Beam show up naturally, and the progression handles both STAB and utility without leaning on TMs for the core attacks.

Finding Cryogonal at moderate rates takes patience. 12 spots are available in mid-game routes, but the rate difference between them matters. Lock in the top one from the sorted list below.
Best Locations to Catch Cryogonal in Black & White
12 walking encounters at Lv. 28-31 for Cryogonal across Black and White. A few locations are version-exclusive, so your copy of the game affects what's available.
Cryogonal Guide
In Black & White, Don't let Cryogonal's 485 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a support. Rapid Spin with Nevermeltice is the standard set.
In Black & White, Run Levitate on Cryogonal. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche.
In Black & White, Cryogonal fills the support role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 95 Sp. Atk). Base 105 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Black & White, Cryogonal has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fire, Fighting, and Rock-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
Introduced in Black & White, Cryogonal has appeared in 9 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
