Stats & Training
Cryogonal's all-in on Sp. Def at the expense of Defense. The special lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 2 Sp. Def EVs and follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
They are born in snow clouds. They use chains made of ice crystals to capture prey.
They are composed of ice crystals. They capture prey with chains of ice, freezing the prey at -148 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cryogonal Weakness
Cryogonal's Ice typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Cryogonal's special bulk (base 135 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

X & Y Evolution
Cryogonal doesn't evolve, so breeding's where the action is. You'll find no compatible partners across one egg group, and eggs are average hatch time. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Cryogonal is genderless and can only breed with Ditto. Part of the Mineral egg group.
X & Y Cryogonal Best Moveset
Cryogonal doesn't rely on pure speed. Rocky Helmet gives it chip damage on every physical hit received to stay healthy, and Timid nature still pushes offense. Freezedry and the remaining moves keep the pressure on while flexible EVs balance power and survivability.
Best Build
Cryogonal best EVs are Speed and HP
Bulky Support Moveset
- Freeze Dry
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Flash Cannon
Moves
Cryogonal develops a solid moveset just through leveling. Ice Beam and Solar Beam show up naturally, and the progression handles both STAB and utility without leaning on TMs for the core attacks.

Best Locations to Catch Cryogonal in X & Y
Before you go hunting for Cryogonal, check which of the 6 spots belong to your version. X and Y each have different walking encounters at Lv. 40+.
Cryogonal Guide
In X & Y, Don't let Cryogonal's 485 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a support. Freezedry with Rocky Helmet is the standard set.
In X & Y, Run Levitate on Cryogonal. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche.
In X & Y, Cryogonal fills the support role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 95 Sp. Atk). Base 105 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In X & Y, run Freezedry, Rapid Spin, Recover, and Flash Cannon on Cryogonal. Freezedry is the most common pick at 24% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
Introduced in Black & White, Cryogonal has appeared in 9 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
