Stats & Training

The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Def backs it up, though Attack doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP EVs on a fast 800K XP curve to max out.

Chansey Weakness

Fighting moves hit Chansey for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Chansey's special bulk (base 105 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

or evolve from Happiny (Step 1)

Chansey Guide

  • At 450 BST, Chansey is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Blissey before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • In Sun & Moon, watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Chansey. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Chansey has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • In Sun & Moon, Happiny evolves into Chansey using a Oval Stone. Chansey evolves into Blissey by leveling up. Chansey is a middle-stage evolution in the Happiny line.

  • Chansey gets Natural Cure, Serene Grace, and Healer. But Natural Cure is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. Natural Cure synergizes with Chansey's base 105 Sp.Def, letting it soak special attacks as a pivot.

  • Chansey is leaning toward the special side (base 35 Sp. Atk). Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wall role.

Game Availability

Present since Red & Blue, Chansey appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Gen 1 originals like Chansey have the longest track record of availability in the series.
