When threatened, it attacks by shooting a barrage of spikes, which gives it a chance to escape by rolling away.

Ferroseed Weakness

Fire and Fighting moves hit Ferroseed for super-effective damage. Fire hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. 9 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. With 44 HP and balanced defenses, Ferroseed can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

X & Y Ferroseed Best Moveset

Don't let the NFE status fool you. Ferroseed with Eviolite hits bulk numbers that compete with final forms. Max HP and Sp. Def EVs and Sassy nature maximize that, and Iron Barbs handles the rest.

Ferroseed Guide

  • Get Ferroseed to Ferrothorn at level 40. At 305 BST, Ferroseed is just the starting point.

  • Level 40 gets you Ferrothorn. Not the fastest evolution, so consider Exp. Share or route grinding to speed it up.

  • In X & Y, Ferroseed does the job early-game if you need a Grass/Steel type on your team. Evolve it into Ferrothorn before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.

  • You can find Ferroseed in X & Y. The Locations section has the full breakdown of routes and encounter details. It also appears in 6 other games across the series.

Game Availability

Introduced in Black & White, Ferroseed has appeared in 7 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
