Stats & Training
Sp. Def and Speed carry most of Virizion's stat budget. Defense's the obvious dump stat. Near-impossible to catch and yields 3 Sp. Def EVs. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
Its head sprouts horns as sharp as blades. Using whirlwind-like movements, it confounds and swiftly cuts opponents.
Legends say this Pokémon confounded opponents with its swift movements.
Virizion Weakness
Virizion is weak to Flying, Fire, Ice, Poison, Psychic, and Fairy. Watch out for Flying attacks, those deal 4x damage. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Virizion's special bulk (base 129 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Flying |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Psychic, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground, Rock, Dark |

TMs carry this one. Virizion learns Close Combat and Focus Blast naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and Flying and beyond give it real matchup play.

Virizion Guide
In X & Y, Virizion is a Legendary Pokemon rated C-Tier. At 580 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a pivot. Close Combat with Salacberry is the standard set.
In X & Y, Virizion's biggest threats include Dodrio (Flying), Charizard (Fire), and Cloyster (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Dodrio is the most dangerous since Flying moves deal 4x damage. Poison, Psychic, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Justified is the go-to ability for Virizion. It raises Attack one stage upon taking damage from a dark move. It's Virizion's only ability.
Base 108 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Virizion is a mixed attacker with base 90 Attack and 90 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a pivot.
For X & Y, the core moveset is Close Combat, Leafblade, Swords Dance, and Xscissor. Close Combat leads at 20% usage. This set covers the pivot role with a mix of damage and utility.
