This remarkable, large-bodied Pokémon would serve beautifully as borrowed scenery for a garden, and its strength is peerless. Torterra roams the wilderness in search of clean water.

Legends: Arceus

Torterra Weakness

Ice, Fire, Flying, and Bug moves hit Torterra for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Torterra's overall bulk (95/105/85) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Sun & Moon Torterra Best Moveset

Overgrow helps Torterra stick around while dealing real damage. Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, max Attack and Speed EVs for the right balance, and Earthquake as the main threat. Not the fastest, but it doesn't need to be.

How to Get Torterra in Sun & Moon

Torterra isn't available in the wild in Sun & Moon. Start by transferring Turtwig from Diamond, Platinum, or Legends: Arceus. The evolution path from Turtwig to Torterra is covered in the steps below.

How to Obtain Torterra in Sun & Moon

  1. Torterra
    Step 3Torterra

Torterra Guide

  • In Sun & Moon, Torterra works as a tank with 525 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Sun & Moon's meta. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Sun & Moon, watch for Cloyster (Ice), Arcanine (Fire), and Salamence (Flying) when using Torterra. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Cloyster is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Bug-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Overgrow strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Torterra. Shell Armor is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Torterra is a physical attacker with base 109 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 56 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.

  • In Sun & Moon, run Earthquake, Wood Hammer, Stone Edge, and Rockpolish on Torterra. Earthquake is the most common pick at 23% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Debuting in Diamond & Pearl, Torterra appears in 12 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through wild encounters.
