Stats & Training
Magnemite's spread isn't flashy. Special leads, HP trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Special stat exp, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Uses anti-gravity to stay suspended. Appears without warning and uses THUNDER WAVE and similar moves.

Magnemite Weakness
Ground moves hit Magnemite for super-effective damage. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Magnemite's special bulk (base 95 Special) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Gen 1 build content has limited support (no abilities, held items, or natures).

Moves
Without TMs, Magnemite's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal coverage on top of Thunder and Thunderbolt for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Magnemite Guide
In Red & Blue, Magnemite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Magneton to unlock its full potential. At 365 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Red & Blue, watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Magnemite. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In Red & Blue, Magnemite fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Special. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
In Red & Blue, Magnemite does the job early-game if you need a electric type on your team. Evolve it into Magneton before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
Level 30 gets you Magneton. Not the fastest evolution, so consider Exp. Share or route grinding to speed it up.
Game Availability
Magnemite has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
