Stats & Training
You won't find a real weakness in Kakuna's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Cocoon Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 2 Defense EVs, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It remains virtually immobile while it clings to a tree. However, on the inside, it busily prepares for evolution. This is evident from how hot its shell becomes.
Kakuna Weakness
Type-wise, Kakuna takes extra damage from Fire, Flying, Psychic, and Rock. The Bug/Poison typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Kakuna's physical bulk (base 50 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Flying, Psychic, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Bug |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Fighting |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Emerald, Charizard can KO Kakuna with Fire Blast (377-444%). Gyarados threatens a KO with Earthquake (87-103%). Regirock's Explosion also KOs at 187-220%.
