Hoopa Weakness

Hoopa is weak to Ghost and Dark. Watch out for Ghost and Dark attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Normal and Fighting-type moves entirely. Hoopa's special bulk (base 130 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

How to Get Hoopa in X & Y

Hoopa is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

This is an event-exclusive or special distribution.

Hoopa Guide

  • In X & Y, Hoopa is a Mythical Pokemon rated B-Tier. At 600 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a wallbreaker. Shadow Ball with Choice Scarf is the standard set.

  • In X & Y, Hoopa's biggest threats include Gengar (Ghost) and Tyranitar (Dark), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Gengar is the most dangerous since Ghost moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Magician is the go-to ability for Hoopa. It steals the target's held item when the bearer uses a damaging move. It's Hoopa's only ability.

  • In X & Y, Hoopa fills the wallbreaker role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 150 Sp. Atk). Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For X & Y, the core moveset is Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Hyperspacehole, and Trick. Shadow Ball leads at 25% usage. This set covers the wallbreaker role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

As a Mythical Pokemon, Hoopa has limited availability — 6 games since its debut in X & Y. Typically obtained through special events or in-game quests rather than standard encounters.
