The leaves growing on SCEPTILE’s body are very sharp edged. This POKéMON is very agile - it leaps all over the branches of trees and jumps on its foe from above or behind.

Ruby & Sapphire Sceptile Best Moveset

Overgrow helps Sceptile stick around while dealing real damage. Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs for the right balance, and Leafblade as the main threat. Not the fastest, but it doesn't need to be.

Moves

Breeding's the move. Crunch and Crush Claw give Sceptile options it can't learn any other way, and coverage across 9 types already covers a decent range on top of Solar Beam and Leaf Blade. The egg moves push it further.

How to Get Sceptile in Ruby & Sapphire

Can't catch Sceptile directly. Start with Treecko but it's a rare spawn from the locations below, then evolve at level 36. The 3-stage chain from Treecko to Sceptile is where the leveling time goes.

Sceptile Guide

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Sceptile works as a sweeper with 530 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Ruby & Sapphire for the right team. Leafblade with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Ruby & Sapphire, but Sceptile does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Sceptile hits 630 BST.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Sceptile's biggest threats include Blaziken (Fire), Lapras (Ice), and Nidoking (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Overgrow is the go-to ability for Sceptile. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Unburden can work in specific setups.

  • Sceptile is a special attacker with base 105 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.

Game Availability

Available since Ruby & Sapphire, Sceptile appears in 16 games spanning 8 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 6.
