FLAAFFY’s wool quality changes so that it can generate a high amount of static electricity with a small amount of wool. The bare and slick parts of its hide are shielded against electricity.

Flaaffy Weakness

Flaaffy is weak to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Only 1 weakness makes it relatively easy to build around defensively.

Egg moves make a real difference. Flaaffy gets Body Slam and Charge exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Normal and Fighting coverage rounds out the picture alongside Thunder and Thunderbolt.

Flaaffy Guide

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Flaaffy isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Ampharos to unlock its full potential. At 365 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Flaaffy's biggest threats include Golem (Ground), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Mareep evolves into Flaaffy at level 15. Flaaffy evolves into Ampharos at level 30. Flaaffy is a middle-stage evolution in the Mareep line.

  • Static is the go-to ability for Flaaffy. It has a 30% chance of paralyzing attacking Pokémon on contact. Its hidden ability Plus can work in specific setups.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Flaaffy fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 80 Sp. Atk. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

Game Availability

Flaaffy first appeared in Gold & Silver and has been available in 17 games across 9 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
