Stats & Training
The stat bars tell the story: Sp. Atk carries everything and Defense's dead weight. But this Psi Pokemon still yields 3 Sp. Atk EVs per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Its brain cells multiply continually until it dies. As a result, it remembers everything.
Its brain can outperform a supercomputer. Its IQ (intelligence quotient) is said to be around 5,000.
Alakazam Weakness
Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Alakazam for super-effective damage. Alakazam's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
In X & Y, Excadrill can KO Alakazam with Earthquake (126-148%). Serperior's Leaf Storm hits Alakazam for 58-69%. Weavile's Knock Off also KOs at 225-265%.

X & Y Evolution
Alakazam evolved from Abra's chain using a trade. It's a non-standard trigger, so check the details below. Breed this form to get Abra eggs (average hatch time). The evolution from Abra pushed Alakazam to 500 total stats. Sp.Def saw the largest single gain at +40. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Alakazam to get Abra eggs easily using 56 partners from the Humanshape egg group. Notable egg moves include Ally Switch, Barrier, Encore and 9 more.
X & Y Alakazam Best Moveset
Alakazam leads with Focus Sash insurance. Even if it can't take a hit naturally, it'll survive long enough to deal early damage. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs go all-in on offense since bulk doesn't matter here.

Moves
Don't skip the egg moves. Alakazam picks up Ally Switch and Barrier only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Future Sight and Dream Eater while coverage across 9 types adds range.

A trade step sits in Alakazam's 3-stage chain from Abra. The step cards below map each stage with catch locations and evolution methods. Abra shows up at moderate rates, so the starting catch is the easy part.
How to Obtain Alakazam in X & Y
The path to Alakazam starts with Abra at Lv. 10+ via walking encounters. 1 catchable stage total, with locations listed for each one below.
Alakazam Guide
In X & Y, Alakazam looks average on paper at 500 BST. But Magic Guard is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. B-Tier sweeper on our tier list. Psychic with Focus Sash is the standard set.
In X & Y, yes. Mega Alakazam is the evolved form, sitting at 600 BST. Big power spike over base Alakazam (500). Equip the Mega Stone and it transforms in battle.
Alakazam gets Magic Guard, Synchronize, and Inner Focus. But Magic Guard is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. With base 120 Speed, Magic Guard gives Alakazam an edge before opponents can react.
Alakazam is a special attacker with base 135 Sp. Atk. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.
