Stats & Training
The stat bars tell the story: Sp. Atk carries everything and Defense's dead weight. But this Psi Pokemon still yields 3 Sp. Atk EVs per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
The spoons clutched in its hands are said to have been created by its psychic powers.

Alakazam Weakness
Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Alakazam for super-effective damage. Alakazam's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
In Black & White, Roserade's Giga Drain hits Alakazam for 41-48%. Xatu's U-turn hits Alakazam for 59-70%.

Black & White Evolution
Alakazam evolved from Abra's chain using a trade. It's a non-standard trigger, so check the details below. Breed this form to get Abra eggs (average hatch time). The evolution from Abra pushed Alakazam to 500 total stats. Sp.Def saw the largest single gain at +40. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Alakazam to get Abra eggs easily using 53 partners from the Humanshape egg group. Notable egg moves include Barrier, Encore, Fire Punch and 7 more.
Black & White Alakazam Best Moveset
Alakazam leads with Focus Sash insurance. Even if it can't take a hit naturally, it'll survive long enough to deal early damage. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs go all-in on offense since bulk doesn't matter here.

Moves
Don't skip the egg moves. Alakazam picks up Barrier and Encore only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Future Sight and Dream Eater while coverage across 8 types adds range.

How to Get Alakazam in Black & White
Alakazam's 3-stage chain starts with Abra, which appears at decent rates in the locations below. Level through 3 stages while you find a trade partner. Everything except the trade step is solo.
Alakazam Guide
In Black & White, Alakazam looks average on paper at 500 BST. But Magic Guard is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. A-Tier sweeper on our tier list. Focus Blast with Focus Sash is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Black & White, but Alakazam does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Alakazam hits 600 BST.
Alakazam gets Magic Guard, Synchronize, and Inner Focus. But Magic Guard is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. With base 120 Speed, Magic Guard gives Alakazam an edge before opponents can react.
Alakazam is a special attacker with base 135 Sp. Atk. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.
Game Availability
Available since Red & Blue, Alakazam appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 7.
