Mantine Weakness
Type-wise, Mantine takes extra damage from Electric and Rock. Watch out for Electric attacks, those deal 4x damage. Ground moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Mantine's special bulk (base 140 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Electric |
| 2x (Weak) | Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Fighting, Bug, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Mantine Emerald Guide
In Emerald, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Mantine. The 465 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a support. Surf with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Emerald, Mantine's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Aerodactyl (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Jolteon is the most dangerous since Electric moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Swift Swim is what you want on Mantine. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Water Absorb) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Mantine worth using.
Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Mantine is a mixed attacker with base 40 Attack and 80 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a support.
For Emerald, the core moveset is Surf, Ice Beam, Haze, and Toxic. Surf leads at 0% usage. Surf provides reliable STAB damage.
