Is Flygon Good in X & Y Playthrough?

Ground/Dragon at level 45 with AbilityLevitate. AbilityLevitate blocks Ground. Handles Clemont, Malva, and Drasna. Outpaced by Garchomp for the Dragon/Ground slot, but the earlier availability and AbilityLevitate give Flygon its own niche.

Flygon Weakness

Type-wise, Flygon takes extra damage from Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Flygon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

It hides itself by kicking up desert sand with its wings. Red covers shield its eyes from sand.

Known as “The Desert Spirit,” this Pokémon hides in the sandstorms it causes by beating its wings.

Flygon X & Y Guide

  • In X & Y, Don't let Flygon's 520 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a sweeper. Earthquake with Choice Scarf is the standard set.

  • In X & Y, Flygon's biggest threats include Lapras (Ice), Dragonite (Dragon), and Gardevoir (Fairy), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage.

  • In X & Y, Run Levitate on Flygon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 100 Speed, Levitate gives Flygon an edge before opponents can react.

  • In X & Y, Flygon fills the sweeper role. It's a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For X & Y, the core moveset is Earthquake, Outrage, U Turn, and Dragonclaw. Earthquake leads at 0% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Flygon first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
