Gabite Weakness

Gabite is weak to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Electric-type moves entirely. Gabite leans offensive (base 90 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.

Gabite Evolutions

Gabite is the middle stage between Gible and Garchomp. It's a three-stage line with one more evolution to go. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. Speed has grown the most so far (+40), but there's still another 190 stats to gain in the final evolution. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Egg moves make a real difference. Gabite gets Body Slam and Double-Edge exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Coverage across 7 types rounds out the picture alongside Draco Meteor and Outrage.

It loves sparkly things. It seeks treasures in caves and hoards the loot in its nest.

As it digs to expand its nest, it habitually digs up gems that it then hoards in its nest.

Gabite X & Y Guide

  • In X & Y, Gabite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Garchomp to unlock its full potential. At 410 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • In X & Y, Gabite's biggest threats include Lapras (Ice), Dragonite (Dragon), and Gardevoir (Fairy), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage.

  • Sand Veil is the go-to ability for Gabite. It increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. Its hidden ability Rough Skin can work in specific setups.

  • In X & Y, Gabite fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker with base 90 Attack and 50 Sp. Atk. Base 82 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many.

  • In X & Y, Gabite does the job early-game if you need a Dragon/Ground type on your team. Evolve it into Garchomp before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.

Game Availability

Gabite first appeared in Diamond & Pearl and has been available in 14 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
