Is Gabite Good in Sword & Shield Playthrough?
Gabite between levels 24 and 48 is a long middle stretch. Dragon/Ground handles Kabu and resists Raihan's Electric coverage. AbilitySand Veil provides evasion in sandstorm. Push through to Garchomp. The payoff is one of the best Pokemon ever designed.

How to Get Gabite in Sword & Shield
Can't catch Gabite directly. Start with Gible at moderate rates from the locations below, then evolve at level 48. The 3-stage chain from Gible to Gabite is where the leveling time goes.
Gabite Weakness
Gabite is weak to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Electric-type moves entirely. Gabite leans offensive (base 90 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Dragon, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |

Gabite Evolutions
Gabite is the middle stage between Gible and Garchomp. It's a three-stage line with one more evolution to go. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with plenty of partners via two egg groups. Speed has grown the most so far (+40), but there's still another 190 stats to gain in the final evolution. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

90 Attack and 82 Speed behind Dragon/Ground TermStab start to resemble what Garchomp does at the top of the format. AbilityRough Skin punishes physical contact. The moveset has some competitive bite but E-tier because the stats need one more evolution to reach viable levels.

Moves List
TMs define Gabite's movepool. The natural moves cover basics with Outrage and Dragon Rush, but the real versatility comes from technical machines giving it Normal and Dark coverage and more. That's where the options open up.

This Pokémon emits ultrasonic waves from a protrusion on either side of its head to probe pitch-dark caves.

Gabite Sword & Shield Guide
In Sword & Shield, Gabite isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Garchomp to unlock its full potential. At 410 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Sand Veil is the go-to ability for Gabite. It increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. Its hidden ability Rough Skin can work in specific setups.
In Sword & Shield, Gabite fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 90 Attack. Base 82 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many.
In Sword & Shield, Gabite does the job early-game if you need a Dragon/Ground type on your team. Evolve it into Garchomp before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
Game Availability
Gabite first appeared in Diamond & Pearl and has been available in 14 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
