Moves

Without TMs, Venusaur's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal coverage on top of Solar Beam and Razor Leaf for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Venusaur Guide

  • In Yellow, Venusaur has a 525 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Yellow's meta. It works best as an attacker. Razorleaf anchors the moveset.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Yellow, but Venusaur does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Venusaur hits 625 BST.

  • In Yellow, watch for Pinsir (Bug), Arcanine (Fire), and Lapras (Ice) when using Venusaur. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Pinsir is the most dangerous since Bug moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In Yellow, Venusaur fills the attacker role. It's a mixed attacker with base 82 Attack and 100 Special. Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Yellow, run Razorleaf, Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, and Body Slam on Venusaur. Razorleaf is the most common pick at 21% usage. This set covers the attacker role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Venusaur first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 10 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
