Stats & Training
Attack leads and Defense gets almost nothing. That's Sharpedo's stat line in a nutshell. 3 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Attack EVs.
Its fangs rip through sheet iron. It swims at 75 mph and is known as “The Bully of the Sea.”
Sharpedo Weakness
Sharpedo's Water/Dark typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Bug. It shrugs off Psychic-type attacks completely. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Sharpedo leans offensive (base 120 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass, Fighting, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Ghost, Dark, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Psychic |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
In Platinum, Infernape can KO Sharpedo with Close Combat (242-285%). Zapdos threatens a KO with Thunderbolt (170-200%).

Platinum Evolution
Evolved from Carvanha. Sharpedo is the final form in this two-stage line. A decent partner pool for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are average hatch time. Attack grew the most through evolution (+30 over Carvanha), and Sharpedo peaks at 460 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve

Platinum Sharpedo Best Moveset
One guaranteed turn is all Sharpedo needs. Focus Sash buys it, max Attack and Speed EVs make it count, and Rough Skin adds something extra. The goal: deal early damage and deal damage with Crunch. Ground coverage gives it play beyond just the lead turn.

Sharpedo Guide
In Platinum, Speed Boost changes the entire equation for Sharpedo. The 460 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a cannon. Crunch with Focus Sash is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Platinum, but Sharpedo does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Sharpedo hits 560 BST.
Speed Boost is what you want on Sharpedo. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Rough Skin) work on paper but Speed Boost is what makes Sharpedo worth using.
Base 95 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Sharpedo is a physical attacker with base 120 Attack. Defensively? Fragile, can't afford to take many hits. Best used as a cannon.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Sharpedo has appeared in 15 titles over 8 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 7, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
