It forms a group of Rattata, which it assumes command of. Each group has its own territory, and disputes over food happen often.

Raticate Weakness

Raticate is weak to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy. Watch out for Fighting attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Psychic and Ghost-type moves entirely. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread. With 75 HP and balanced defenses, Raticate can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Sun & Moon Raticate Best Moveset

Raticate keeps momentum with U-turn, switching out after dealing damage or scouting. Flame Orb gives it self-burn for Guts activation, max Attack and Speed EVs let it hit hard on the way out, and the remaining moves prevents dead turns.

Moves

Most of Raticate's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Giga Impact and Hyper Beam, but Ice and Grass and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

or evolve from Rattata (Step 1)

Raticate Guide

  • In Sun & Moon, Raticate's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), Scyther (Bug), and Clefable (Fairy), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Machamp is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage.

  • In Sun & Moon, Rattata evolves into Raticate at level 20. Raticate is the fully evolved form. It sits at 413 BST in its evolved form.

  • In Sun & Moon, Raticate can work for a story run. 413 BST is average, but Dark/Normal typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.

  • In Sun & Moon, Raticate looks average on paper at 413 BST. But Thick Fat is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier on our tier list. Sucker Punch with Flame Orb is the standard set.

  • Raticate gets Thick Fat, Gluttony, and Hustle. But Thick Fat is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Raticate appears in 18 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained an Alolan form in Generation 7.
