Stats & Training
Gligar's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, Sp. Atk trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Moderately hard to find and worth 1 Defense stat exp, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It flies straight at its target’s face then clamps down on the startled victim to inject poison.
It usually clings to cliffs. When it spots its prey, it spreads its wings and glides down to attack.
Gligar Weakness
Gligar's Ground/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Water. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric and Ground-type attacks completely. Gligar's physical bulk (base 105 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Water |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Poison, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric, Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def

Gligar Guide
In Gold & Silver, Gligar isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Gliscor to unlock its full potential. At 430 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Gold & Silver, Gligar fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 75 Attack. Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Gold & Silver, Gligar does the job early-game if you need a Ground/Flying type on your team. Evolve it into Gliscor before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
In Gold & Silver, run Earthquake, Counter, Sludge Bomb, and Wingattack on Gligar. Earthquake is the most common pick at 25% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
Gligar has been available in 17 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
