Stats & Training
Raw HP carries Giratina's bulk more than the defenses do. Speed barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A near-impossible to catch Renegade Pokemon that yields 3 HP EVs on a slow 1.25M XP grind.
This Pokémon is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours, where common knowledge is distorted and strange.
It was banished for its violence. It silently gazed upon the old world from the Distortion World.
Giratina Weakness
Giratina's Ghost/Dragon typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Giratina's overall bulk (150/120/120) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Poison, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Normal, Fighting |
In X & Y, Clefable's Moonblast hits Giratina for 39-46%. Weavile deals 59-69% with Knock Off.

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Giratina won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 11 types means it always has an effective option. Draco Meteor and Shadow Force anchor the STAB core.

Giratina Guide
For the X & Y meta, At 680 BST, Giratina is built different. We rank it S-Tier. As a Legendary Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a tank.
In X & Y, watch for Weavile (Ice), Dusknoir (Ghost), and Kingdra (Dragon) when using Giratina. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dark and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. Giratina has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Pressure increases the PP cost of moves targetting the Pokémon by one. That's the one you want on Giratina. Telepathy is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Giratina is a mixed attacker with base 100 Attack and 100 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a tank.
For X & Y, Giratina has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.
Game Availability
