Black & White Amoonguss Best Moveset

Regenerator isn't flashy, but it matters. Combined with Black Sludge for Poison-type passive recovery and max HP and Sp. Def EVs, Amoonguss fills the defensive wall slot reliably. Calm nature finishes the spread.

Amoonguss Guide

  • In Black & White, Don't let Amoonguss's 464 base stat total fool you. Regenerator is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a trick room. Giga Drain with Black Sludge is the standard set.

  • In Black & White, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Walrein (Ice), and Staraptor (Flying) when using Amoonguss. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. At base 30 Speed, Amoonguss won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • In Black & White, Run Regenerator on Amoonguss. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Amoonguss also gets Effect Spore, but they don't compare.

  • In Black & White, Amoonguss fills the trick room role. It's a mixed attacker with base 85 Attack and 85 Sp. Atk. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Black & White, run Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Hiddenpowerfire, and Stun Spore on Amoonguss. Giga Drain is the most common pick at 21% usage. This set covers the trick room role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Introduced in Black & White, Amoonguss has appeared in 9 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
