Stats & Training
Speed and Attack carry most of Aipom's stat budget. Sp. Atk's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 1 Speed EV. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.
It lives atop tall trees. When leaping from branch to branch, it deftly uses its tail for balance.
Its tail is so powerful that it can use it to grab a tree branch and hold itself up in the air.
Aipom Weakness
Type-wise, Aipom takes extra damage from Fighting. Ghost moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Just 1 weak spot to worry about, which keeps teambuilding straightforward.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
In X & Y, Hitmontop can KO Aipom with Close Combat (224-263%). Conkeldurr threatens a KO with Drain Punch (184-216%).

How to Get Aipom in X & Y
Aipom Guide
Aipom is meant to evolve into Ambipom. At 360 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
In X & Y, Aipom's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Run Away is the go-to ability for Aipom. It ensures success fleeing from wild battles. Its hidden ability Skill Link can work in specific setups. Pickup is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.
Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Aipom is a physical attacker with base 70 Attack. Defensively? Fragile, can't afford to take many hits.
For X & Y, you can run Aipom through the first few routes without issues. 360 BST won't carry you far though. Get it to Ambipom as fast as you can.
Game Availability
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Aipom spans 9 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
