Is Wobbuffet Good in Ruby & Sapphire Playthrough?
Not native to Hoenn. Trade from FireRed or LeafGreen. AbilityShadow Tag prevents opponents from switching out, trapping them. In Gen 3, Shadow Tag on Wobbuffet is actually powerful since MoveCounter and MoveMirror Coat work with the trapping. Import only if you want the gimmick.

Wobbuffet Evolutions
Evolved from Wynaut. Wobbuffet is the final form in this two-stage line. A decent partner pool for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are average hatch time. HP grew the most through evolution (+95 over Wynaut), and Wobbuffet peaks at 405 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Wobbuffet to get Wynaut eggs easily using 22 partners from the Indeterminate egg group.
RS Wobbuffet Best Moveset
The opponent can't switch out. AbilityShadow Tag traps them while MoveCounter reflects physical damage at double power and MoveMirror Coat does the same for special. 190 HP absorbs the triggering hit. Held ItemLeftovers sustains. Locking turns a reactive moveset into an inescapable threat.

Base Stats
If two or more WOBBUFFET meet, they will turn competitive and try to outdo each other’s endurance. However, they may try to see which one can endure the longest without food. TRAINERS need to beware of this habit.
WOBBUFFET does nothing but endure attacks - it won’t attack on its own. However, it won’t endure an attack on its tail. When that happens, the POKéMON will try to take the foe with it using DESTINY BOND.
Wobbuffet Ruby & Sapphire Guide
- How do I catch Wobbuffet in the Ruby & Sapphire Safari Zone?
See the Locations section above for where to find Wobbuffet in Ruby & Sapphire.
Safari rules: You can only use Safari Balls. No battling. Two tactical items shift the catch/flee trade-off:
- Throw bait to keep Wobbuffet from fleeing (flee rate cut to 1/4) but it becomes harder to catch (catch factor halved).
- Throw a rock to make Wobbuffet easier to catch (catch factor doubled) but it flees twice as often.
- Each effect lasts 2-6 random turns; throwing one cancels the other.
In Ruby & Sapphire, Wobbuffet's biggest threats include Heracross (Bug), Misdreavus (Ghost), and Tyranitar (Dark), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. At base 33 Speed, Wobbuffet won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In Ruby & Sapphire, Wobbuffet can work for a story run. 405 BST is average, but Psychic typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.
For Ruby & Sapphire, we rate Wobbuffet B-Tier: a solid option in Ruby & Sapphire for the right team. At 405 BST, it fits the support role. Counter with Lum Berry is the standard set.
Shadow Tag is the go-to ability for Wobbuffet. It prevents opponents from fleeing or switching out. It's Wobbuffet's only ability.
