Is Masquerain Good in Ruby & Sapphire Playthrough?

Bug/Flying with AbilityIntimidate, which is a strong ability on a Pokemon with mediocre stats. Masquerain lowers Attack on switch-in but can't capitalize offensively. The Intimidate support helps teammates more than Masquerain helps itself.

MASQUERAIN intimidates enemies with the eyelike patterns on its antennas. This POKéMON flaps its four wings to freely fly in any direction - even sideways and backwards - as if it were a helicopter.

MASQUERAIN’s antennas have eyelike patterns that usually give it an angry look. If the “eyes” are droopy and appear sad, it is said to be a sign that a heavy rainfall is on its way.

Masquerain Ruby & Sapphire Guide

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Masquerain's biggest threats include Tyranitar (Rock), Blaziken (Fire), and Jolteon (Electric), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Tyranitar is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Ice and Flying-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Masquerain can work for a story run. 434 BST is average, but Bug/Flying typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Masquerain looks average on paper at 434 BST. But Intimidate is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier attacker on our tier list. Hydro Pump with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • Masquerain gets Intimidate. But Intimidate is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Masquerain is a physical attacker with base 60 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the attacker role.

Game Availability

Debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Masquerain appears in 14 games across 8 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through wild encounters.
