Is Mandibuzz Good in Black & White Playthrough?

Dark/Flying at level 54 with AbilityOvercoat. Black's late-game defensive bird. Enormous HP and decent Defense. Handles Shauntal and Caitlin through Dark. Like Braviary, the level 54 evolution is a significant grind.

Mandibuzz Weakness

Type-wise, Mandibuzz takes extra damage from Electric, Ice, and Rock. Ground and Psychic moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Mandibuzz's overall bulk (110/105/95) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

BW Mandibuzz Best Moveset

110 HP and 105 Defense with Dark/Flying typing. AbilityOvercoat blocks weather damage and powder moves. The moveset absorbs physical hits and recovers with MoveRoost. MoveFoul Play uses the opponent's Attack stat instead, punishing physical attackers with their own power. 80 Speed is adequate for the defensive role.

It makes a nest out of bones it finds. It grabs weakened prey in its talons and hauls it to its nest of bones.

Watching from the sky, they swoop to strike weakened Pokémon on the ground. They decorate themselves with bones.

Mandibuzz Black & White Guide

  • In Black & White, Mandibuzz has a 510 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Black & White's meta. It works best as a support. Roost with Rocky Helmet is the standard set.

  • In Black & White, Mandibuzz's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric), Cloyster (Ice), and Tyranitar (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Mandibuzz has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Big Pecks is the go-to ability for Mandibuzz. It protects against Defense drops. Its hidden ability Weak Armor can work in specific setups. Overcoat is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • In Black & White, Mandibuzz fills the support role. It's a physical attacker with base 65 Attack. Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • For Black & White, the core moveset is Roost, Foulplay, Taunt, and U Turn. Roost leads at 0% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Introduced in Black & White, Mandibuzz has appeared in 8 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
