Stats & Training
Vespiquen's built to absorb hits, not race for knockouts. Balanced defenses with Defense doing the heavy lifting. And the 1.06M XP medium-slow curve means it won't take forever to bring up, worth 2 Defense and Sp. Def EVs.
It houses its colony in cells in its body and releases various pheromones to make those grubs do its bidding.
Its abdomen is a honeycomb for grubs. It raises its grubs on honey collected by Combee.
Vespiquen Weakness
Vespiquen is weak to Rock, Fire, Electric, Ice, and Flying. Watch out for Rock attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Ground-type moves entirely.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Electric, Ice, Flying |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Bug |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Fighting |

In X & Y, Weavile's Ice Shard hits Vespiquen for 48-57%. Zapdos deals 59-70% with Thunderbolt.

Vespiquen Guide
In X & Y, Vespiquen works as a support with 474 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in X & Y's meta. Attackorder with Leftovers is the standard set.
In X & Y, Vespiquen's biggest threats include Golem (Rock), Charizard (Fire), and Raikou (Electric), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Golem is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Ice and Flying-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 40 Speed, Vespiquen won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Pressure is the go-to ability for Vespiquen. It increases the PP cost of moves targetting the Pokémon by one. Its hidden ability Unnerve can work in specific setups.
Vespiquen is leaning toward the physical side (base 80 Attack). Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 40 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the support role.
For X & Y, the core moveset is Attackorder, Destinybond, Healorder, and Air Slash. Attackorder leads at 25% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.
