Stats & Training
Talonflame's built around mixed offense. Speed leads the charge, Sp. Def pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 3 Speed EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Talonflame mainly preys upon other bird Pokémon. To intimidate opponents, it sends embers spewing from gaps between its feathers.
Talonflame dives toward prey at speeds of up to 310 mph and assaults them with powerful kicks, giving the prey no chance to escape.
Talonflame Weakness
Talonflame's Fire/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Rock, Water, and Electric. Rock hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Ground-type attacks completely. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Electric |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Fighting, Steel, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
In Sword & Shield, Lunatone's Psychic hits Talonflame for 59-70%. Slowking deals 80-94% with Scald.

Talonflame Guide
In Sword & Shield, Talonflame has a 499 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid option in Sword & Shield for the right team. It works best as a pivot. Bravebird with Heavy-Duty Boots is the standard set.
In Sword & Shield, watch for Rhyperior (Rock), Milotic (Water), and Jolteon (Electric) when using Talonflame. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhyperior is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Talonflame's base 126 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Flame Body has a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact. That's the one you want on Talonflame. Gale Wings is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
In Sword & Shield, Talonflame fills the pivot role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 81 Attack). Base 126 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Sword & Shield, run Bravebird, Flare Blitz, Roost, and Swords Dance on Talonflame. Bravebird is the most common pick at 25% usage. This set covers the pivot role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
