Stats & Training
Defense and Attack carry most of Huntail's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Attack and Defense EVs. Follows a standard growth curve.
Huntail’s presence went unnoticed by people for a long time because it lives at extreme depths in the sea. This Pokémon’s eyes can see clearly even in the murky dark depths of the ocean.
Huntail’s tail is shaped like a fish. It uses the tail to attract prey, then swallows the prey whole with its large, gaping mouth. This Pokémon swims by wiggling its slender body like a snake.
Huntail Weakness
Huntail's Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric and Grass. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Huntail's physical bulk (base 105 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Serperior can KO Huntail with Leaf Storm (114-135%). Zapdos threatens a KO with Thunderbolt (96-113%).

Huntail Guide
In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Huntail. The 485 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as an attacker. Shellsmash with Figyberry is the standard set.
Swift Swim is what you want on Huntail. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Water Veil) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Huntail worth using.
At base 52 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Huntail is leaning toward the physical side (base 104 Attack). Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as an attacker.
In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, run Shellsmash, Baton Pass, Aquatail, and Substitute on Huntail. Shellsmash is the most common pick at 25% usage. This set covers the attacker role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
