Stats & Training
Bastiodon's all-in on Defense at the expense of Speed. The mixed lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 2 Defense EVs and follows a standard growth curve.
When they lined up side by side, no foe could break through. They shielded their young in that way.
Any frontal attack is repulsed. It is a docile Pokémon that feeds on grass and berries.
Bastiodon Weakness
Bastiodon's Rock/Steel typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting, Ground, and Water. Fighting and Ground hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Poison-type attacks completely. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Bastiodon's physical bulk (base 168 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fighting, Ground |
| 2x (Weak) | Water |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Normal, Flying |
| 0x (Immune) | Poison |
In X & Y, Garchomp can KO Bastiodon with Earthquake (108-128%). Breloom's Mach Punch hits Bastiodon for 45-54%. Gastrodon deals 42-49% with Scald.

Bastiodon Guide
In X & Y, Bastiodon has a 495 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in X & Y's meta. It works best as a support. Stealth Rock with Leftovers is the standard set.
In X & Y, watch for Lucario (Fighting), Garchomp (Ground), and Milotic (Water) when using Bastiodon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lucario is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. At base 30 Speed, Bastiodon won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Sturdy prevents being KOed from full HP, leaving 1 HP instead. That's the one you want on Bastiodon. Soundproof is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
In X & Y, Bastiodon fills the support role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 52 Attack). Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
In X & Y, run Stealth Rock, Toxic, Taunt, and Metalburst on Bastiodon. Stealth Rock is the most common pick at 20% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.
