Is Torterra Good in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Playthrough?
Grass/Ground gives Torterra answers to four gym leaders (Roark, Wake, Volkner, Byron). Earthquake from level-up hits hard. The problem is Candice's Ice-types and Cynthia's Garchomp both exploit that 4x Ice weakness. You'll want Ice-resistant teammates for the endgame. Reusable TMs let Torterra carry Crunch and Stone Edge for coverage. Strong from gym 2 through gym 8, then needs support.
Turtwig resists most of Roark's coverage and hits back hard.
Gardenia's team hits Grotle's weaknesses hard.
Grotle trades roughly evenly with Maylene's team.
Grotle has the type edge here and should clean up Crasher Wake's team.
Torterra trades roughly evenly with Fantina's team.
Torterra has the type edge here and should clean up Byron's team.
Torterra trades roughly evenly with Candice's team.
Torterra has the type edge here and should clean up Volkner's team.

Torterra resists most of Bertha's coverage and hits back hard.
Torterra has the type edge here and should clean up Flint's team.
Torterra trades roughly evenly with Lucian's team.
Torterra has the type edge here and should clean up Cynthia's team.

Your Turtwig should hit Level 18 before you reach Gardenia, at typical leveling pace.
Your Grotle should hit Level 32 before you reach Fantina, at typical leveling pace.

Torterra Weakness
Ice, Fire, Flying, and Bug moves hit Torterra for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Torterra's overall bulk (95/105/85) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ground, Rock |
