Is Mudsdale Good in Sword & Shield Playthrough?

Mudsdale with AbilityStamina gets more defensive every time an opponent hits it. 100 Attack with Ground coverage handles Kabu, Gordie, and Raihan. 35 Speed means it always moves last, but it tanks everything while hitting back hard. Available early from Route 3. One of the most reliable Ground-types for a Galar run.

Mudsdale Weakness

Type-wise, Mudsdale takes extra damage from Water, Grass, and Ice. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Mudsdale's overall bulk (100/100/85) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

SwSh Mudsdale Best Moveset

Defense rises with every hit through AbilityStamina, making the moveset harder to break with each physical attack. 125 Attack at 100 HP and 100 Defense behind Ground TermStab adds physical power and starting bulk. C-tier because 35 Speed goes dead last and special attackers bypass the Defense stacking entirely.

Mud that hardens around a Mudsdale’s legs sets harder than stone. It’s so hard that it allows this Pokémon to scrap a truck with a single kick.

Mudsdale has so much stamina that it could carry over 10 tons across the Galar region without rest or sleep.

Mudsdale Sword & Shield Guide

  • In Sword & Shield, Mudsdale has a 500 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid option in Sword & Shield for the right team. It works best as a wallbreaker. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Sword & Shield, Mudsdale's biggest threats include Gyarados (Water), Exeggutor (Grass), and Walrein (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. At base 35 Speed, Mudsdale won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Own Tempo is the go-to ability for Mudsdale. It prevents confusion. Its hidden ability Inner Focus can work in specific setups. Stamina is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • In Sword & Shield, Mudsdale fills the wallbreaker role. It's a physical attacker with base 125 Attack. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • For Sword & Shield, the core moveset is Earthquake, Bodypress, Stealth Rock, and Toxic. Earthquake leads at 0% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Introduced in Sun & Moon, Mudsdale has appeared in 4 games across 4 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
