Is Larvitar Good in Platinum Playthrough?

Available through breeding in Platinum. Rock/Ground baby leading to Tyranitar at level 55. AbilityGuts boosts Attack when statused. The grind to Tyranitar is one of the longest in the game. If started early, 600 BST at the end justifies everything.
