Is Golbat Good in Yellow Playthrough?

Faster than most mid-game Pokemon and tough enough to take a hit. Poison/Flying still doesn't threaten anything important though. Golbat can fill a roster spot if you need one, but you won't miss it if you pass.

TMs define Golbat's movepool. The natural moves cover basics with Wing Attack, but the real versatility comes from technical machines giving it Dark and Bug coverage and more. That's where the options open up.

Pokemon Yellow

Golbat Yellow Guide

  • In Yellow, Golbat isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Crobat to unlock its full potential. At 465 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • In Yellow, Golbat's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric), Cloyster (Ice), and Alakazam (Psychic), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • In Yellow, Golbat fills the pivot role. It's a physical attacker with base 80 Attack. Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Yellow, Golbat does the job early-game if you need a Poison/Flying type on your team. Evolve it into Crobat before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.

  • For Yellow, the core moveset is Confuseray, Megadrain, Toxic, and Wingattack. Confuseray leads at 0% usage. This set covers the pivot role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Golbat has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 21 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
