Is Gligar Good in Crystal Playthrough?
Available in Crystal without needing Gold version. Route 45 catch with Ground/Flying typing that's defensively strong. No evolution in Gen 2 keeps the stats middling. Crystal gives wider access but the performance ceiling stays the same.

Gligar Weakness
Gligar's Ground/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Water. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric and Ground-type attacks completely. Gligar's physical bulk (base 105 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Water |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Poison, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric, Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def

Moves List
The natural movepool does the job, but Counter and Metal Claw from the egg pool give Gligar something extra. Pair those with Wing Attack for STAB and Poison and Normal coverage and more for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Gligar Crystal Guide
In Crystal, Gligar isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Gliscor to unlock its full potential. At 430 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Crystal, Gligar fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 75 Attack. Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Crystal, Gligar does the job early-game if you need a Ground/Flying type on your team. Evolve it into Gliscor before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
In Crystal, run Earthquake, Counter, Sludge Bomb, and Wingattack on Gligar. Earthquake is the most common pick at 0% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
Gligar has been available in 17 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
