Is Geodude Good in Crystal Playthrough?

Dark Cave and Union Cave early on. Rock/Ground handles Bugsy, Morty (through Normal moves), and Jasmine. The double weakness to Water and Grass shows up constantly though. Graveler at 25 is usable, Golem requires a trade.

Geodude Weakness

Type-wise, Geodude takes extra damage from Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. Watch out for Water and Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. The Rock/Ground typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Geodude's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Geodude Crystal Guide

  • Geodude is a static encounter at Johto Team Rocket Hq in Crystal. Geodude appears at level 21. Save before the encounter. These one-shot Pokemon don't respawn if you knock them out or run out of Poke Balls.

  • In Crystal, For a casual playthrough, Geodude works as a placeholder. Rock/Ground coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Graveler. That's where the stats start mattering.

  • Yes. Alolan Geodude is a regional variant with different typing and a reworked stat spread. Introduced in Gen 7. Plays completely differently from the original.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Geodude appears in 20 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained an Alolan form in Generation 7.
