Drednaw Guide

  • Don't let Drednaw's 485 base stat total fool you. Swift Swim is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a wallbreaker.

  • Drednaw's biggest threats include Venusaur (Grass), Regieleki (Electric), and Hitmonlee (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Venusaur is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Run Swift Swim on Drednaw. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Drednaw also gets Strong Jaw and Shell Armor, but they don't compare.

  • Drednaw fills the wallbreaker role. It's a physical attacker with base 115 Attack. Base 74 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • The core moveset is Shellsmash, Liquidation, Crunch, and Stone Edge. Shellsmash leads at 0% usage. Liquidation provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Drednaw first appeared in Sword & Shield and spans 2 games across 3 generations. It later gained a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
