Is Charmander Good in Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee Playthrough?

Charmander shows up as a gift on Route 24, early enough to evolve into Charizard before Erika. Fire typing tears through Erika's gym and Koga's Poison/Bug lineup. The road to one of the best Megas in the game starts here.
