Stats & Training
You won't find a real weakness in Wartortle's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Turtle Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 2 Defense and Sp. Def EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It is a well-established symbol of longevity. If its shell has algae on it, that WARTORTLE is very old.
It cleverly controls its furry ears and tail to maintain its balance while swimming.
Wartortle Weakness
Wartortle is weak to Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Wartortle's Water typing only leaves 2 gaps to cover.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
In HeartGold & SoulSilver, Magnezone can KO Wartortle with Thunderbolt (138-162%). Jolteon's Thunderbolt also KOs at 183-215%.

Wartortle Guide
At 405 BST, Wartortle is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Blastoise before bringing it to any serious fight.
Torrent is the go-to ability for Wartortle. It strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Rain Dish can work in specific setups.
Wartortle is leaning toward the special side (base 65 Sp. Atk). Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 58 Speed, it won't be moving first often.
