Stats & Training
An unusually even spread gives Squirtle flexibility. Defense barely edges ahead. But Speed isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 1 Defense stat exp.
The shell is soft when it is born. It soon becomes so resilient, prodding fingers will bounce off it.
The shell, which hardens soon after it is born, is resilient. If you poke it, it will bounce back out.
Squirtle Weakness
Squirtle's Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric and Grass. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Just 2 weak spots to worry about, which keeps teambuilding straightforward.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Venusaur can KO Squirtle with Giga Drain (102-121%). Electabuzz threatens a KO with Thunder (143-169%).

Gold & Silver Evolution
Three stages ahead. Squirtle grows into Wartortle, then pushes on to Blastoise. Check the evolution methods below. For breeding, average hatch time with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. The evolved forms gain up to 216 total stats over Squirtle. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Squirtle easily with 36 breeding partners from the Monster and Water1 egg groups. Pass egg moves like Confusion, Flail, Foresight and 3 more to offspring.

Moves
The natural movepool does the job, but Confusion and Flail from the egg pool give Squirtle something extra. Pair those with Hydro Pump and Surf for STAB and coverage across 8 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.
