Everything pushes toward special damage here. Pyroar's Sp. Atk does the work, Sp. Def pays the price. But you're still getting 2 Sp. Atk EVs per KO. Moderately hard to find, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

X & Y Pyroar Best Moveset

Flamethrower is the safe click most turns. Choice Specs locks Pyroar into it but rewards with boosted special damage with move lock. Timid nature and max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs maximize that first hit. Unnerve helps on the margins.

Moves

Egg moves make a real difference. Pyroar gets Entrainment and Fire Spin exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Dark and Ground coverage and more rounds out the picture alongside Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Pyroar Guide

  • In X & Y, Pyroar works as a sweeper with 507 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in X & Y's meta. Hypervoice with Choice Specs is the standard set.

  • In X & Y, yes. Mega Pyroar is the evolved form, sitting at 607 BST. Big power spike over base Pyroar (507). Equip the Mega Stone and it transforms in battle.

  • In X & Y, Pyroar's biggest threats include Milotic (Water), Conkeldurr (Fighting), and Excadrill (Ground), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Rivalry is the go-to ability for Pyroar. It increases damage inflicted to 1.25× against Pokémon of the same gender, but decreases damage to 0.75× against the opposite gender. Its hidden ability Moxie can work in specific setups. Unnerve is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • Pyroar is a special attacker with base 109 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 106 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.

Game Availability

Available since X & Y, Pyroar appears in 6 games spanning 5 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 6.
