Moves

The egg pool carries weight here. Amnesia and Charm aren't available any other way for Ivysaur, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Leaf Storm and Solar Beam for solid options.

How to Get Ivysaur in Black & White

Ivysaur can't be caught in Black & White. Transfer Bulbasaur from Red, Yellow, or Brilliant Diamond and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.

How to Obtain Ivysaur in Black & White

  1. Ivysaur
    Step 2Ivysaur

Ivysaur Guide

  • At 405 BST, Ivysaur is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Venusaur before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • In Black & White, Ivysaur's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Dodrio (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem.

  • In Black & White, Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur at level 16. Ivysaur evolves into Venusaur at level 32. Ivysaur is a middle-stage evolution in the Bulbasaur line.

  • Ivysaur gets Chlorophyll and Overgrow. But Chlorophyll is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • In Black & White, Chlorophyll is the hidden ability. It doubles Speed during strong sunlight. Worth hunting for if you want Ivysaur to compete at a higher level.

Game Availability

Present since Red & Blue, Ivysaur appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Gen 1 originals like Ivysaur have the longest track record of availability in the series.
