Groudon Weakness

Groudon's Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, and Ice. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. Groudon's physical bulk (base 140 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Moves

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Groudon's coverage across 9 types all comes from technical machines, built on top of Earthquake and Dig for same-type damage. Earthquake and Fire Blast are the payoff moves.

Groudon Guide

  • For the FireRed & LeafGreen meta, At 670 BST, Groudon is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Legendary Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, watch for Milotic (Water), Venusaur (Grass), and Cloyster (Ice) when using Groudon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Groudon has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Groudon gets Drought. But Drought is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. On wall sets, Drought pairs with Groudon's base 140 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.

  • Groudon is a physical attacker with base 150 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. Fits the wallbreaker role.

  • For FireRed & LeafGreen, Groudon has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

Since Ruby & Sapphire, Groudon has appeared in 16 games. Legendary Pokemon like Groudon are usually found through story events or special post-game areas rather than random encounters.
