Stats & Training
Charizard's built around special offense. Sp. Atk leads the charge, HP pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 3 Sp. Atk stat exp. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
If CHARIZARD becomes furious, the flame at the tip of its tail flares up in a whitish-blue color.
Breathing intense, hot flames, it can melt almost anything. Its breath inflicts terrible pain on enemies.
Charizard Weakness
Type-wise, Charizard takes extra damage from Rock, Water, and Electric. Watch out for Rock attacks, those deal 4x damage. Ground moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. With 78 HP and balanced defenses, Charizard can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Electric |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Fighting, Steel |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Cloyster's Explosion hits Charizard for 71-84%. Steelix's Explosion hits Charizard for 65-76%.

How to Get Charizard in Gold & Silver
Charizard isn't available in the wild in Gold & Silver. Start by transferring Charmander from Red, Yellow, or Brilliant Diamond. The evolution path from Charmander to Charizard is covered in the steps below.
Charizard Guide
In Gold & Silver, Charizard has a 534 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid option in Gold & Silver for the right team. It works best as a sweeper. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Gold & Silver, but Charizard does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Charizard hits 634 BST.
In Gold & Silver, Charizard fills the sweeper role. It's a mixed attacker with base 84 Attack and 109 Sp. Atk. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Gold & Silver, the core moveset is Earthquake, Fire Blast, Bellydrum, and Rock Slide. Earthquake leads at 23% usage. This set covers the sweeper role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
Charizard first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 10 generations. It later gained Mega X and Mega Y forms in Generation 6, a Mega form in Generation 7, and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
