Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Speed and Attack carry the offense, Sp. Atk doesn't even come close. A Long Tail Pokemon on a fast 800K XP curve, worth 2 Speed EVs per KO.
They work in large colonies and make rings by linking their tails, apparently in friendship.
To eat, it deftly shucks nuts with its two tails. It rarely uses its arms now.
Ambipom Weakness
Ambipom is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Ambipom leans offensive (base 100 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
In X & Y, Breloom's Mach Punch hits Ambipom for 64-75%. Machamp's Stone Edge hits Ambipom for 58-68%.

How to Get Ambipom in X & Y
Ambipom Guide
In X & Y, Technician changes the entire equation for Ambipom. The 482 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a sweeper.
In X & Y, Ambipom's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Ambipom's base 115 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Technician is what you want on Ambipom. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Pickup, Skill Link) work on paper but Technician is what makes Ambipom worth using. With base 115 Speed, Technician gives Ambipom an edge before opponents can react.
Base 115 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Ambipom is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.
In X & Y, the best way to handle Ambipom: Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
