To get Marill, start by catching Azurill through walking and surfing encounters at Lv. 5-27. The chain covers 3 catchable stages before reaching the final form.
Marill Weakness
Marill's Water/Fairy typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, and Poison. It shrugs off Dragon-type attacks completely. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.

Marill Evolutions
Marill is the middle stage between Azurill and Azumarill. It's a three-stage line with one more evolution to go. For breeding, quick to hatch with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+20 from Azurill). The final form adds another 170 stats on top. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

XY Marill Best Moveset
Water/Fairy typing arrived this generation, adding Dragon immunity and Fairy TermStab alongside AbilityHuge Power doubling Attack. The moveset adapted through one of the biggest type upgrades in the game. Azumarill one evolution away jumped to S-tier with the new Fairy typing.

Base Stats
The fur on its body naturally repels water. It can stay dry, even when it plays in the water.
The tip of its tail is filled with oil that is lighter than water, so it acts as a float.
Marill X & Y Guide
In X & Y, Marill does the job early-game if you need a Water/Fairy type on your team. Evolve it into Azumarill before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
