Revered long ago for its capacity to create iron from nothing, for some reason it has come back to life after 3,000 years.

Melmetal Weakness

Fire, Fighting, and Ground moves hit Melmetal for super-effective damage. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. It resists 10 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Melmetal's physical bulk (base 143 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Melmetal Guide

  • For the Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee meta, At 600 BST, Melmetal is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • In Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee, watch for Volcarona (Fire), Machamp (Fighting), and Rhydon (Ground) when using Melmetal. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. At base 34 Speed, Melmetal won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Iron Fist strengthens punch-based moves to 1.2× their power. That's the one you want on Melmetal. It's the only ability Melmetal has.

  • Melmetal is a physical attacker with base 143 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 34 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wallbreaker role.

  • For Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee, Melmetal has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

Introduced in Sun & Moon, Melmetal shows up in 3 games across 4 generations. Mythical status keeps it locked behind events or specific story content in most appearances.
